Job Description: Electrical Construction Project Engineer - Water/Wastewater Industry
Position Title: Project Engineer
Location: 995 Marietta Industrial Drive, Marietta, GA 30062-2443
Reports to: Project Manager
Position Overview:
Provide support to the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and overseeing electrical construction activities related to water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This includes the installation, maintenance, and upgrade of electrical systems, instrumentation, and control systems within treatment plants, pumping stations, and other related facilities. The role combines technical expertise, project management responsibilities, and cost estimation to ensure successful project delivery in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Support and Coordination:
Assist with the preparation of technical reports, project updates, and compliance documentation.
Assist with ensuring electrical components and systems meet the technical specifications, safety standards, and electrical code.
Assist with coordinating contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure smooth project execution.
Maintain accurate project files, drawings, and records of all electrical work performed.
Track project progress and report on key milestones, timelines, and resource requirements.
Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, vendors, engineers, and regulatory bodies.
Estimating and Cost Control:
Assist in preparing initial project estimates by evaluating project scope, specifications, and drawings.
Perform cost analysis for electrical components, materials, labor, and equipment required for each phase of the project.
Work closely with the project team and subcontractors to obtain accurate material and labor cost estimates.
Assist in creating detailed budgets and timelines, tracking costs during project execution to ensure adherence to the initial budget.
Monitor and report on any potential cost overruns and collaborate with the Project Manager to find solutions to stay within budget.
Help identify and evaluate opportunities for cost-saving measures during the project lifecycle.
Health, Safety, and Compliance:
Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations during electrical installations and operations.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Engineering Technology, Construction Management or a related field are a plus
Professional certifications in project management are a plus.
Experience:
2-5 years of experience in electrical construction, ideally within the water/wastewater, utilities, or industrial sectors.
Experience with cost estimation and budgeting for electrical projects is a plus.
Skills and Competencies:
Knowledge of electrical codes (NEC, NFPA), standards, and regulations applicable to water/wastewater operations.
Familiarity of electrical systems, controls, instrumentation, and automation with a willingness to become a subject matter expert.
Knowledge of project management (e.g., MS Project, Primavera), CAD, and estimating software a plus but not required
Strong skills in cost estimation, budgeting, and financial tracking for electrical projects.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
Work Environment:
Ability to work in both office and field environments, with frequent visits to job sites.
Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, or in outdoor environments, as required by project needs.
This role will require frequent travel to project sites, including remote locations.
Flexibility to work outside of regular office hours during project deadlines or emergency situations may be required.
